Tips to Spot Car Dealers Scams

Car dealers may oftentimes be fraudulent, so you have to be very careful not to become a victim of auto dealer fraud. If you are about to buy a new or used car, you’d better arm yourself with some knowledge on common car dealer tricks, tactics and strategies.

Your first step should be preparing yourself to a talk with a car salesman since car dealer scams start from the moment you enter the car lot.  Dealers are usually very quick in evaluating the customer. Once they realize that you are just beginning to look for a car and that you don’t have a clear idea of what you want, or what the average market costs are, they will start using their full arsenal of persuasive techniques on you.

So before going to a car dealer, decide for yourself what type of cars you are interested in and what their average market price is. This will help you not to fall under the control of fraudulent car dealers.

Never get emotionally attached to a car, since the moment the dealer senses that you are in love with a car, he/she will try to transform it into a profit, by adding extras on to the car. Remind yourself that there are other great cars as well and never let yourself get too attached to this or that car.

Start your negotiations low since car salesmen are taught to begin negotiations higher than they expect the person to pay.  By starting at a low price, you will be able to settle at a mid-range price that feels right.
