Sometimes buying extended car warranties for new or used car can be confusing and expensive for the car owner.
However, these warranties are very important because if you don’t have an extended warranty after your factory warranty ends, then you are on your own and with the high cost of repairs. An extended auto warranty can pay for itself even the first time you use it.
Most car buyers decide to purchase an extended auto warranty from a car dealer. These buyers can usually expect an extremely high pressure and unpleasant experience in the finance department.
The reason is because extended car warranties are one of the most profitable things that a car dealer offers.
The sale of them is handled in the car dealer’s finance department and the pressure to buy their extended auto warranty can be intense.
What should the customer do in this situation? Of course, you need a car warranty and even though car dealers will try to make you feel like an idiot for turning down their expensive warranty – there is an alternative.

I just returned from the dealership after dealing with their crap for 2 weeks!.. and I came back with my old truck thank you very much!
So two weeks ago I go in to refinance my lease so I could keep it (ya know the bad economy and all) since I was the only owner and knew all that was wrong with it I would rather keep it then buy another used car since I didn’t think New was an option for me. Well of course the dealership thought I could get approved for a new one and they ran their game which went in one ear and out the other like anything that comes out of a mans mouth (retired stripper – yes a pole dancer;)) Anyway, it was a Friday and they wanted me to drive the vehicle home for the weekend yada yada and I said “NO” but it was a pretty truck and it made for a great weekend ride. Anyway – Monday came around and no call from them to say I was totally approved , Tuesday I called and no return call from the finance guy or my sales rep – who was useless BTW. So I went in to see what the problem was informing them that I understand the game (also sold cars for a little while) and that banks usually don’t take this long! Anyway – we went back and forth all week long, then they called and said were gonna need a co-signor, took them all week to figure that one out! So I get the best co-signor ever , She had a 828 for a score and is a GM Executive and then it takes them another week to get that figured out but not without me showing up at teh begining of yet another week and telling them that I needed a full tank of gas and the truck washed for them driving me nuts and yes they did that:) So tonight – (mind you it would be 2 weeks tomorrow that this all started) I stopped in at like 7 at night just to see how things were coming along and what not then they have a whole new finance manager to deal with me and let me tell ya – I think this is the one they send in when all others fail! I told them what I wanted in the beginning – I get the GMS pricing and whatever GM puts on the hood for rebates plus all dealer bonus cash if they had it and NO EXTENDED WARRANTY BULLSH*T. So this guy first sees me walk in and right away says “You must be So & So” and I said “Yes, I am” Shook his hand and he rattells off he just got my approval a half hour ago…G how fricken’ convenient. So he gets me back in his office and runs some B.S. on how I have to accept the Extended Warranty in order to get approved at the APR I did. I started to fumigate – I could feel my body turn Lobster red and my ears were smokin’ I knew it was a lie but I told him that I would leave the truck and I would think about it – Of course he didn’t like that and started to get cocky so now I am really pissed so I stuck to the fact I needed to think about it. So I left the dealership still in the new truck get to where I was going call my sister (co-signor) she told me to tell them to F**** off and give’em the keys back – Mind you it now had 800 miles on it and yes I drive A LOT and the sucker had hail damage that the dealer was suppose to fix. So I did, I turned around and took it back walked in and demanded my keys to my old truck back. ALL OF A SUDDEN.. the truck payment drops $80 a month and they said what ever I want they will do. (of course the little assbag that I had just talk to was nowhere to be found) Told them “NO” that they pissed me off and that was that – Mind you I walked right into the closed-off room where those F**CKERS Do there little “deal making” and let ‘em all have it – the other customers were watching and could tell thru the glass I was infuriated. They kept on for about 15 minutes trying to do the whole sweet talking thing but I didn’t back down and all 5 of them got quiet and I said either get my old truck to me now or I will drive this new one thru the front door! Yeah I got my truck back
and the sales guy walked me out to my truck helped me take out the stuff from the new one back to old “Blackie) who isn’t really old – she is four and I actually bought her from the same dealer back in ’05 (thats a whole other story – would have thought I learned) Anyway- Thats my story – DON’T EVER LET ANY DEALERSHIP TELL YOU THAT IN ORDER TO GET APPROVED OR GET A BETTER RATE YOU HAVE TO BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR GAP INSURANCE – Get Gap thru your insurance company – State farm has it for sure! I have needed it in past.
Thank you for sharing your story. A lot of fraud can be avoided by consummers who are pro active and my best advise is to NEVER deal with dealerships who have let you down once before. Best of luck!
